CDS Oluyede, COAS land in Borno after bomb blasts
Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa Oluyede, alongside the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has arrived in Maiduguri, Borno State, following recent bomb explosions that caused casualties and heightened security concerns in the region.
The visit by the military chiefs is said to be in response to directives from the Presidency for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation and the coordination of ongoing security operations aimed at restoring stability.
Military sources indicated that the top commanders are expected to hold strategic meetings with field commanders and other security agencies to review operational plans and strengthen measures to prevent further attacks.
The development comes amid renewed efforts by the armed forces to intensify counter-insurgency operations in the North-East, where extremist groups have continued to pose threats to communities and infrastructure.
Authorities have also reassured residents that additional troops and resources would be deployed to reinforce security in affected areas, while humanitarian support is being mobilised for victims of the blasts.
Security analysts say the presence of high-ranking military officials in the state underscores the seriousness of the situation and reflects the government’s determination to curb insurgent activities and protect civilians.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information that could aid ongoing operations.
