British Envoy, Governors Visit Anthony Joshua in Lagos Hospital After Fatal Crash
World heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has received high-level visits from British and Nigerian officials following his involvement in a fatal road accident along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
The Deputy Head of Mission of the British High Commission in Nigeria, Simon Field, visited the boxer in hospital as diplomatic officials intensified monitoring of the incident.
The visit was confirmed in a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the Ogun State Governor, Kayode Akinmade. According to the statement, Field met with Joshua during his hospital stay and held discussions with Dapo Abiodun and Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“The British High Commission was formally notified of the accident. Officials of the Mission are monitoring developments and remain in contact with the hospital and the Ogun State Government,” the statement said.
It further disclosed that the families of the deceased victims had been contacted through the British High Commission.
Details of the Accident
The accident occurred around midday on Monday and involved a Toyota Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and three other passengers. The crash resulted in the deaths of two occupants of the vehicle.
The deceased were identified as Ayodele Kelvin Olu, a 36-year-old Nigerian-British citizen, and Gami Sina, a 36-year-old British citizen.
Joshua sustained injuries and was rushed to a Lagos hospital, where he has been receiving medical attention.
Governors Spend Hours at Hospital
Following the crash, Governor Abiodun visited the hospital immediately after receiving news of the incident. He was later joined by Governor Sanwo-Olu, with both leaders reportedly remaining at the hospital for several hours to ensure the boxer received adequate care.
Speaking on the development, Abiodun said he personally supervised Joshua’s treatment alongside his Lagos counterpart.
“As soon as I was informed, I headed straight to the hospital and was later joined by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. We both took charge of the situation, oversaw Anthony Joshua’s care, and remained at the hospital for over seven hours,” Abiodun said.

Other top government officials who visited the hospital include the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade.
