The National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu has apologized to organized labor on Wednesday for the November 1 attack on President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.

Ajaero was violently beaten and held for hours after storming Owerri to lead a demonstration.

As a result, the labor movement issued an ultimatum to the government to meet certain objectives, including the arrest of those responsible for the Ajaero attack, threatening a statewide walkout if the demands were not met.

Ribadu said the federal government regrets the incident that happened in Imo and condemns it in its entirety, noting that it was against the rule of law and the principles of freedom of association and expression subscribed to by President Tinubu and his administration.
