Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, has called for greater involvement of young people in peacebuilding efforts across Nigeria, stressing their critical role in fostering stability and development.

Speaking at a recent engagement, Bagudu highlighted the importance of understanding the root causes of conflicts, noting that addressing issues such as unemployment, inequality and social exclusion is key to achieving lasting peace.

He emphasised that youths are not only stakeholders but also active agents of change, capable of driving community-based solutions and promoting dialogue in conflict-prone areas.

According to the minister, empowering young people through education, skills development and inclusive policies will enhance their ability to contribute meaningfully to national peace and security.

Bagudu also urged government institutions, civil society organisations and development partners to create platforms that encourage youth participation in decision-making processes.

Observers say the call aligns with broader efforts to harness Nigeria’s youthful population as a force for positive transformation and sustainable development.
