Atiku Proposes APC-PDP-LP Coalition to Stop Tinubu’s Re-election Bid

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has unveiled plans to form a grand political alliance uniting the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Labour Party (LP) in a strategic effort to block President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027.
Atiku made this announcement during a meeting with stakeholders from the Kogi East Senatorial Zone, led by former Deputy Governor Simon Achuba, in Abuja. The discussions focused on addressing Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, fostering unity in the North, and setting a new direction for national leadership.
Expressing deep concern over the current security crisis, Atiku strongly criticized the Tinubu administration for its lack of decisive action.
> “How can leaders remain unmoved while citizens are being slaughtered?” Atiku queried. “This level of indifference is the height of irresponsibility.”
He recalled the early days of the Boko Haram insurgency during his tenure as Vice President, claiming that swift and firm directives from then-President Olusegun Obasanjo—backed by his own advice—helped quell the uprising in its infancy.
> “When Boko Haram emerged in 2002 in Yobe, the president asked me for advice. I told him to summon the service chiefs and give them a deadline: end the crisis or step down. That directive was effective. The insurgents were subdued within weeks and did not re-emerge until after we left office,” he said.
Atiku also highlighted the urgent need to reform Nigeria’s security architecture. He proposed the recruitment of unemployed graduates into the police force as a solution to the country’s under-policing crisis.
> “We have too few officers protecting too many people, while many educated youths are jobless. Why not bridge both gaps by recruiting them into the police?”
Pushing for a united opposition front, Atiku revealed that discussions are underway to form a cross-party coalition between Nigeria’s major political platforms.
