Atiku, El-Rufai Coalition Seeks INEC Registration for New Political Party

A new political movement spearhe8aded by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has formally applied to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the registration of a new party—the All Democratic Alliance (ADA).
- The application, dated June 19 and acknowledged by INEC on Friday, marks a strategic shift by the coalition to establish a fresh platform, rather than align with any existing political party.
The All Democratic Alliance is being backed by several political heavyweights, including former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and Umar Ardo, convener of the League of Northern Democrats and a former aide to President Olusegun Obasanjo. Their collective aim is to leverage growing public dissatisfaction and evolving political dynamics to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the next general elections.
This move comes just days after INEC reaffirmed that all party registration applications must adhere strictly to constitutional and electoral provisions, regardless of political pressure or public sentiment.
The formal request puts an end to weeks of speculation regarding whether the opposition coalition would revive a defunct party or launch a new one.
