Atiku Camp Denies Fayose’s Claims Of Secret 2027 Political Negotiations
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s camp has dismissed claims by former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, alleging the existence of secret political negotiations involving Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by Atiku’s media team, the camp described Fayose’s comments as “unfounded and speculative,” insisting that there are no ongoing backdoor discussions or political deals concerning future electoral arrangements. The statement stressed that Atiku remains focused on national issues and party unity rather than early political bargaining.
Fayose had earlier suggested during a media appearance that some opposition figures were engaging in behind-the-scenes talks, claiming that Makinde was being considered within a broader political strategy for the next election cycle. His remarks sparked debate among members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with supporters expressing mixed reactions over the alleged negotiations.
Responding to the claims, Atiku’s aides said political decisions within the party would be taken through transparent consultations when the appropriate time comes. They urged party members and the public to disregard narratives that could create division or tension within the opposition.
Political observers note that discussions about alliances and positioning are gradually emerging as key figures begin to prepare for the 2027 elections, even though official campaigns have not started. As of the time of filing this report, Governor Seyi Makinde has not released any detailed statement addressing Fayose’s allegations.
