APC Urges Rivers Chief Judge to Obey Court Order Restraining Impeachment Process Against Fubara
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has called on Simeon Amadi, the state’s Chief Judge, to comply with an interim court order restraining him from participating in the impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Rivers APC said the injunction expressly bars the Chief Judge from receiving, acting on, or responding to any resolution from the Rivers State House of Assembly relating to the impeachment of the governor and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
The party’s position follows Friday’s plenary session at the state assembly, during which Martins Amaewhule, Speaker of the House, formally requested the Chief Judge to constitute a seven-member panel to investigate allegations of gross misconduct levelled against Governor Fubara and his deputy.
According to the APC, proceeding with the constitution of such a panel would amount to a violation of a subsisting court order and a threat to the rule of law. The party stressed that all parties involved in the political crisis must submit themselves to due process and judicial authority.
“The Chief Judge, as the custodian of the judiciary in the state, must lead by example by obeying court orders, regardless of political pressure,” the APC said, warning that any action taken in defiance of the injunction could further escalate the crisis in the state.
The political tension in Rivers State has continued amid a prolonged power struggle between the executive and the legislature, with impeachment threats against the governor heightening concerns over governance and stability.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Rivers State judiciary nor the state government has officially responded to the APC’s call.
