APC TO WIKE: “YOU SERVE TINUBU, NOT OUR PARTY”
The All Progressives Congress has strongly rebuked the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, declaring that he is not a member of the party and has no right to interfere in its internal affairs.
In a sharp response to recent comments credited to Wike, the APC said while the former Rivers State governor may be working with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, that relationship does not translate into party membership or authority within the APC.
Party officials accused Wike of “meddling” in APC matters, stressing that support for President Tinubu’s administration does not make him an APC stakeholder. According to the party, Wike remains a member of another political party and should therefore refrain from making pronouncements or taking positions on APC internal issues.
The APC warned that Wike’s public comments and political interventions were capable of causing confusion and internal tension, especially at a time when the party is working to strengthen unity and cohesion nationwide.
“Working for President Tinubu does not make you a member of the APC,” a party source said, adding that loyalty to an individual leader should not be confused with loyalty to a political party and its structures.
The party maintained that only duly recognised members and organs of the APC have the mandate to speak on its affairs, policies, and internal disputes. It urged Wike to “know his boundaries” and respect party lines.
As of the time of filing this report, Wike had not issued an official response to the APC’s remarks.
The exchange adds to growing political tension surrounding Wike’s role in the Tinubu administration and his relationship with the ruling party, fueling debate over party loyalty, political alignment, and influence within Nigeria’s power structure.
