The All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to appoint a new National Chairman during a decisive National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday in Abuja, The PUNCH has gathered.

Former National Chairman and ex-Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, officially resigned from his position in June, citing health challenges. However, political observers believe his exit was more closely linked to internal party dynamics and strategic positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Following his resignation, Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Dalori, assumed the role of Acting National Chairman.

Reliable sources within the party’s National Secretariat revealed that Thursday’s NEC meeting will address several critical issues, including:

The appointment of a substantive National Chairman

Updates from the APC Constitution Review Committee

Discussions on forthcoming party congresses

Insiders also disclosed that while many party stakeholders favor Ali Dalori continuing as Acting Chairman, there is mounting pressure for the party to zone the chairmanship to the North Central region.

Prominent names being considered include:

Senator Tanko Al-Makura, former Governor of Nasarawa State

Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction
