Abuja, September 28, 2025 — A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee, Tolu Bankole, has thrown his weight behind the Reserved Seats for Women Bill, describing it as a progressive step toward deepening Nigeria’s democracy.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, Bankole, who also serves as the APC National Leader for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), urged lawmakers to ensure the bill’s swift passage.

The bill, currently slated for a third reading in October, proposes the creation of 37 additional Senate seats, 37 in the House of Representatives, and three reserved seats per state assembly, all exclusively for women. After the National Assembly process, the legislation will proceed to state assemblies before presidential assent.

Bankole praised the bill as “timely and reflective of the nation’s readiness” while stressing that affirmative action should equally be extended to Persons With Disabilities.

“Women are the engine room of development. No women, no nation. Nigerian women are not only beautiful but also smart, responsive, caring, responsible, competent, and reliable. Their managerial ingenuity is both distinguished and honourable,” he

stated.
