Alliance for Defence of Democracy to Launch Oct 1

Eminent Nigerians, including economist Prof. Pat Utomi, former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (Prof. Attahiru Jega), and former Minister of Education Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, will on October 1 launch a new electoral reform platform known as the Alliance for Defence of Democracy (ADD).
The initiative, announced in a statement by the spokesperson of the National Consultative Front (NCFront), Hamisu San Turaki, is described as a “popular alternative movement to drive and structure the campaign and mobilisation process for critical electoral reforms.”
Other notable figures backing the movement include Nigeria Labour Congress President Joe Ajaero; Senior Advocates of Nigeria Dr. Olisa Agbakoba and Mr. Femi Falana; Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Bola Tinubu; Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, President of the African School of Governance; and Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party.
According to the NCFront, the ADD will serve as an alternative platform to mobilise Nigerians at home and abroad in pursuit of urgent reforms in the nation’s electoral system ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The launch will coincide with a major National Dialogue on Electoral Reforms, jointly organised by the NCFront, Labour, and Civil Society groups, to generate public support for restructuring Nigeria’s electoral framework.
