The Senegal Football Federation has rejected the decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) concerning the outcome of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), announcing plans to challenge the ruling at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Officials of the federation expressed dissatisfaction with the verdict, which reportedly confirmed Morocco as champions following the conclusion of the tournament. Senegalese authorities argued that there were issues surrounding the match outcome and procedural concerns that warranted further legal review.

In a statement, the federation maintained that seeking redress through the appropriate legal channels was necessary to protect the integrity of the competition and uphold sporting fairness. It added that preparations were underway to file a formal appeal, including the submission of relevant evidence and documentation.

The development has added fresh controversy to the continental football scene, with analysts noting that such disputes can have implications for the reputation of tournaments and the relationship between national federations and governing bodies.

CAF has yet to issue a detailed response to the appeal plans but is expected to defend its decision in accordance with its statutes and disciplinary procedures.

Sports observers say the outcome of the case could set an important precedent for handling disputes related to major competitions in Africa, particularly as the stakes continue to rise in international football tournaments.
