Adeleke Leaves PDP, Cites Prolonged National Leadership Crisis
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has officially withdrawn his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), attributing his decision to the ongoing leadership turmoil at the party’s national level.
The governor made the announcement in a statement posted on his Instagram page late Monday. According to him, he had already delivered his resignation letter to PDP officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government Area, on November 4, 2025.
Adeleke wrote, “Due to the persistent crisis affecting the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (#OfficialPDPNig) at the national level, I formally submitted my resignation letter as a member of the party to its leadership in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government, on November 4, 2025.”
The governor also expressed appreciation to the PDP and its supporters for the opportunities he received—first as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and currently as the Governor of Osun State.
Earlier indications from the PDP’s Osun State chapter suggested that Adeleke might not pursue the party’s ticket for the 2026 governorship election unless the national leadership crisis was resolved. Party leaders, however, had maintained hope that an acceptable resolution—recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)—could convince the governor to reconsider.
