ADC factional chairman denies resignation, calls letter fake

Factional chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafiu Bala, has dismissed reports of his resignation from the party, describing a letter circulating online as fake and malicious.
In a statement on Sunday signed by the party’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, Dr. Christopher Okechukwu, the ADC maintained that the document, dated May 18, 2025, neither originated from Bala nor carried the party’s official insignia.
Okechukwu stressed that Bala remains the constitutionally recognised Acting National Chairman of the ADC, insisting he has not resigned from his leadership position. He described the purported letter as a desperate ploy by political actors seeking to destabilise the party.
“The so-called resignation letter is entirely fabricated and fraudulent,” Okechukwu said. “Hon. Nafiu Bala has not at any time resigned from his position, nor relinquished his leadership role in line with our party’s constitution.”
The statement further alleged that the document was part of a coordinated attempt by former ADC National Chairman, Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu, alongside other “power-seeking elements,” to hijack the party’s structures through undemocratic means.
The party leadership emphasised that any transition must follow constitutional provisions, including valid membership, financial compliance, and due process. It added that the circulation of the forged letter was aimed at sowing discord among members and destabilising operations.
