The Oyo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has demanded that Governor Seyi Makinde give a public account of the ₦50 billion intervention funds reportedly requested from the Federal Government after the January 2024 Bodija explosion in Ibadan.
In a statement issued on Monday, the party said it was concerned that nearly a year after the tragic explosion, there has been no clear breakdown of how the funds were utilised or whether the money was fully disbursed.
The ADC noted that the Bodija explosion claimed lives, destroyed properties worth billions of naira, and left many residents displaced, making transparency in the handling of relief and intervention funds a moral and constitutional obligation.
“The people of Oyo State deserve to know how much was received, how it was spent, and which victims benefited from the intervention funds,” the party said, adding that silence from the government only fuels public suspicion.
The opposition party also called on the Oyo State House of Assembly and relevant anti-corruption agencies to demand full disclosure, insisting that accountability is essential to rebuilding public trust and ensuring justice for victims of the disaster.
Governor Makinde’s administration has yet to issue an official response to the ADC’s call at the time of filing this report.
