Abiodun tasks cooperative societies on principles, modern realities

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has called on cooperative leaders, members, regulators, and policymakers to uphold the founding principles of cooperative societies while adapting to modern realities.
Speaking at the 2025 International Year of Cooperatives celebration in Abeokuta, Abiodun — represented by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele — listed areas cooperatives must embrace, including digital finance, climate change, agriculture, and sustainable business models.
He stressed that cooperatives not only drive economic empowerment but also foster social solidarity, community ownership, and reduced inequality.
Quoting the International Labour Organisation, Abiodun described cooperatives as “people-centred enterprises” that remain crucial for advancing sustainable social and economic development across communities.
