Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has approved the payment of a 16-year backlog of entitlements owed to the families of 265 deceased state workers.

The Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, disclosed this after the State Executive Council meeting, stating that over ₦50 million has been released for the verified next of kin of the late workers.

Kanu noted that the move underscores the governor’s commitment to workers’ welfare.

He also announced progress in the state’s plan to acquire 60% of EEDC’s assets in Abia to boost power supply, with Ohafia set to have electricity restored after several years.

Additionally, Otti inaugurated the board of the Abia Technological Skills Acquisition Centre, chaired by engineering professor Ndúbuisi Ekekwe, to promote youth empowerment.
