The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has temporarily resolved the internal crisis within the House minority caucus after intervening in moves to impeach Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda.

Chinda, a PDP lawmaker from Rivers State, faced accusations of poor leadership and being too close to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, an ally of President Tinubu. Some caucus members—especially from the North and South-West PDP blocs—had called for his removal.

In response, Chinda filed a lawsuit at the Federal High Court, Abuja, to stop the move, arguing that his removal would violate his constitutional right to association.

During a tense meeting in Abuja on Monday night, Speaker Abbas intervened, pleading for calm and promising to mediate. Following his appeal, members allowed Chinda to explain his actions. Chinda apologised and pledged to withdraw the lawsuit, leading to a temporary truce within the caucus.
