JUST IN: COURT ORDERS EL-RUFAI TO ENTER DEFENCE IN WIRETAPPING TRIAL
A Federal High Court has dismissed a no-case submission by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai in his wiretapping trial involving National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu.
The ruling means El-Rufai has been directed to enter his defence against the allegations, rather than having the case dismissed at this stage.
A no-case submission is a request by a defendant asking the court to end a trial without requiring a defence, usually on the grounds that the prosecution has not presented sufficient evidence requiring an answer.
By dismissing the submission, the court has allowed the proceedings to continue. However, the decision does not amount to a finding of guilt against El-Rufai.
The case concerns allegations linked to wiretapping involving Ribadu. Further details on the court’s reasoning and the next hearing were not included in the brief.
