The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) has called for increased appointment of women into judicial positions, stressing that greater female representation is essential to addressing gender inequality within the justice system.
The CJN noted that women continue to make significant contributions to the legal profession and should be given more opportunities to occupy leadership and decision-making positions in the judiciary.
According to the nation’s top judicial officer, a more inclusive judiciary would strengthen justice delivery, improve diversity of perspectives, and promote fairness across the legal system.
The call comes amid growing advocacy for gender balance in public institutions, with stakeholders urging authorities to remove barriers limiting women’s advancement in leadership roles.
The CJN emphasized that merit, competence, and equal opportunity should guide appointments while ensuring that qualified women are adequately represented at all levels of the judiciary.
The remarks have reignited discussions on gender equality, judicial reforms, and the need to create more opportunities for women within Nigeria’s legal and governance structures.
