Former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu, warning that Nigeria may be drifting toward a one-party state.
Tambuwal accused the federal government of actions that could undermine democratic principles, alleging that opposition voices are being weakened and political space is shrinking.
He also expressed concern over the country’s socio-economic conditions, stating that many Nigerians are facing increasing hardship amid current policies and economic realities.
According to him, democracy thrives on competition, inclusiveness and respect for diverse political views, urging the government to uphold these values.
Tambuwal warned that any attempt to erode democratic institutions or limit opposition participation could have long-term consequences for the nation’s stability.
Observers say the remarks reflect growing political tensions and heightened rhetoric among opposition figures as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections.
