Abia govt to judiciary workers: Call off strike, face staff audit
The Abia State Government has urged striking judiciary workers to suspend their industrial action and submit to a staff verification exercise, warning that failure to comply could attract consequences.
In a statement, the government said the dispute over outstanding leave allowances can be resolved within 48 hours, provided the union presents verifiable claims.
Officials insisted that the proposed audit is necessary to ensure transparency and accuracy in addressing the workers’ demands, noting that due process must be followed before payments are made.
The government called on the workers to return to work in the interest of the justice system and the general public, stressing that prolonged strikes could disrupt judicial activities and deny citizens access to justice.
However, the move has sparked reactions, with some stakeholders expressing concerns over the ultimatum and urging dialogue to resolve the impasse amicably.
Observers say the situation highlights ongoing tensions between government and labour unions, with resolution dependent on trust, verification and constructive engagement.
