Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State is set to accompany President Bola Tinubu on a two-day state visit to the United Kingdom, becoming the only state governor included in the official Nigerian delegation.

According to sources familiar with the trip, President Tinubu is scheduled to depart Abuja on Tuesday alongside the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, for the visit slated for March 18 and 19. The engagement is expected to focus on strengthening diplomatic relations, trade cooperation and strategic partnerships between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

During the visit, the Nigerian leader and his wife are billed to be hosted by King Charles at Windsor Castle, in what officials describe as a significant diplomatic milestone. The trip marks the first formal state visit by a Nigerian leader to the UK in several decades.

Government insiders say Governor Lawal’s inclusion in the delegation reflects ongoing efforts to involve sub-national governments in international engagements that could attract investment and development opportunities to states.

Analysts note that such high-level visits often provide platforms for discussions on economic cooperation, security collaboration, education partnerships and cultural exchange between both countries.

The Presidency has expressed optimism that the outcome of the visit will further deepen bilateral ties and open new avenues for economic growth and institutional cooperation.
