Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has said Nigeria is rich in talent but continues to struggle due to leadership failure and poor governance.

Obi made the remarks while speaking on a public platform, where he referenced Nigerian players excelling on the global stage, including those participating in the Super Bowl, as clear evidence of the country’s vast but underutilised human capital.

According to him, Nigeria’s challenges are not rooted in a lack of ability or resources, but in the inability of leaders to properly harness and manage the nation’s potential.

“Nigeria is not lacking in talent. Our problem is leadership,” Obi said.

He stressed that with effective leadership, accountability, and good governance, Nigeria’s abundant human and natural resources could drive sustainable development and global competitiveness.

Obi also urged Nigerians to consistently demand transparency and responsible leadership, noting that progress would only be possible when leaders are held accountable for the use of public resources.

The former Anambra State governor maintained that the country’s youth and professionals have continued to excel abroad, proving that Nigeria has what it takes to succeed if given the right environment.
