APC Says 2027 Presidential Ticket Open to All Despite Tinubu’s Endorsement

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that, even though many of its leaders have endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term, other party members who want to contest the presidency in 2027 will still be allowed to run.
The party’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Mohammad Argungu, made this known on Wednesday during a media chat at the APC national secretariat in Abuja.
Argungu explained that the endorsement of Tinubu by the party’s leadership, governors, and lawmakers was only to show support for his achievements so far, not to block others from contesting.
He stressed that APC remains a democratic party and will not deny anyone the right to buy forms and participate in the primaries when the time comes.
“We are not closing the door against any aspirant. When the timetable is out, anyone who wants to run will be free to do so. The endorsement of the President only shows that we believe he deserves a second term based on his performance,” he said.
He also dismissed claims that APC would follow the example of the PDP in 2014, when the party produced only one form for then-President Goodluck Jonathan.
On the party’s recent electoral performance, Argungu attributed APC’s victory in 13 out of 16 by-elections to God’s grace and the commitment of party leaders, members, and supporters nationwide.
