Tinubu Launches Tax Calculator to Show Impact on Nigerians’ Incomes

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday introduced a new Personal Income Tax Calculator designed to help Nigerians understand how the government’s new tax reforms will affect their earnings.

In a post on his official X (Twitter) account, Tinubu explained that the tool enables citizens to compare their current tax payments with what they would pay when the new laws take effect in January 2026.

According to him, the reforms are aimed at building a fairer tax system—one that does not punish poverty or weigh heavily on the most vulnerable Nigerians.

> “A fair tax system must never punish poverty or weigh down the most vulnerable. With the new tax laws I recently signed, we have lifted this burden and created a path of equity, fairness, and true redistribution in our economy,” the President said.

He further stated that the calculator makes tax obligations clearer by showing how the reforms:

Protect low-income earners,

Promote fairness and progressivity, and

Simplify compliance for individuals.

Tinubu urged citizens to “take a bet on Nigeria” and see the reforms as a step toward building an economy that works for everyone.
