Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, has confirmed he will again contest for president in the 2027 elections.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme, Obi dismissed widespread speculation that he might become the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

> “I’m going to contest for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and I believe I am qualified for it,” Obi declared.

On the rumour of pairing up with Atiku, Obi clarified:

> “This is not in play; nobody has ever discussed that with me… People assume so many things.”

Obi reaffirmed his commitment to the Labour Party, calling himself “a vibrant member.” At the same time, he noted he is part of a broader opposition coalition — including the African Democratic Congress (ADC) — formed to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

> “I am part of the coalition which will be able to produce a president with the capacity and compassion to save this country,” he added.
