Lionel Messi is poised for a highly anticipated reunion with his former club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), after his current team, Inter Miami, secured a spot in the last 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup with a dramatic 2-2 draw against Palmeiras.

The Group A clash took place at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on June 23, where Inter Miami initially looked set for another stunning win in the tournament, following their earlier victory over Porto.

Miami surged ahead with goals from Tadeo Allende and Luis Suárez, putting them 2-0 up and in firm control. However, Brazilian champions Palmeiras mounted a spirited comeback, scoring twice in the final ten minutes through Paulinho and Mauricio to level the match and seal progression for both teams.

Despite the late equalizer, the draw was enough to see Inter Miami through to the knockout stage — setting the stage for an emotional face-off between Messi and PSG, the club he left in 2023.
