The Nigerian military and police have initiated a joint, cross-border manhunt for the armed men responsible for the killing of nearly 200 villagers in Yelewata, located in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, on Friday night, June 13.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, arrived in Makurdi on Monday and visited the affected community to assess the situation and coordinate security operations.

Speaking at the scene, General Musa condemned the massacre, describing it as “one killing too many,” and emphasized that the military would revise its strategy to better fit the realities on ground.
