Oyo Government Distributes Free Textbooks To Public Schools

The Oyo State Government has commenced the distribution of the second phase of its free textbook initiative to both junior and senior students in public secondary schools across the state.

The state Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Salihu Adelabu, performed the distribution exercise on Friday at the ministry, Secretariat, Agodi in Ibadan, the state capital.

He explained that the initiative was driven by the state’s free and qualitative education policy, which has led to a surge in school enrolments across the 33 Local Government Areas in the state.

According to him, the newly distributed textbooks are “Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science, Economics, Basic Science and Technology, Information Technology, and Social Studies. They have been supplied to public secondary schools in all the 33 Local Government Areas of the state.”

Adelabu said the effort was aimed at enhancing students’ academic performance in internal and external examinations.

The commissioner, therefore, reassured parents of the government’s commitment to easing the financial burden of education and ensuring that every child has access to quality learning materials.

He further encouraged students to take full advantage of the textbooks, study diligently, and remain focused on their academic pursuits to excel in their chosen careers.
