US-Israel strike: Our internal security under control, Police assure Nigerians

The Nigeria Police Force has assured citizens and residents that Nigeria’s internal security situation remains stable and firmly under control amid evolving geopolitical tensions following recent joint United States-Israel strikes in the Iran conflict.

In a statement released on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, Acting Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu, psc reiterated the force’s commitment to protecting lives, property and national peace in the face of possible global fallout.

While noting that Nigeria remains secure internally, the police said proactive, intelligence-led policing measures have been reinforced across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to prevent any attempts by individuals or groups to exploit international tensions for unrest.

The Ag. IGP has directed commissioners of police — especially in the North West, North East and North Central zones — to heighten surveillance, strengthen collaboration with traditional and religious leaders, and enhance visibility policing around worship centres and other public spaces.

“The Nigeria Police Force reiterates that Nigeria will not serve as a theatre for foreign conflicts,” the force stated, warning that any effort to import external ideological or religious tensions into the country will be met with the full weight of the law.

IGP Disu also called on community leaders nationwide to continue promoting peace and urged citizens to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding, while reporting any suspicious activity to the nearest police station

The reassurance comes as global security concerns escalate amid the US-Israel-Iran conflict, prompting heightened domestic and international security alerts.
