Russian President Vladimir Putin has condemned the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, saying the act was a “cynical violation of all norms of human morality and international law.
In a message to Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, Putin expressed his deep condolences to the Iranian government and people over the death of Khamenei and members of his family. He described the killings — which took place during joint U.S.-Israeli airstrikes — as breaching both ethical standards and established legal norms that govern state conduct
Putin also highlighted Khamenei’s role as a statesman and underscored the longstanding ties between Russia and Iran. His remarks reflect broader international concern about the legality and morality of targeted killings of national leaders, and how such actions intersect with international law and norms of conduct in armed conflict.

Global reactions have varied, with some world leaders condemning the strikes and others urging diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation.
