Amaechi Declares for 2027 Presidency on ADC Platform

Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the banner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Amaechi made the announcement on Wednesday in Kano State after meeting with a coalition of traders. He stressed that he would not step aside for any other aspirant during the party’s primary.
“I will contest the ADC presidential primary, and by God’s grace, I hope to win so that I can face Tinubu in 2027. I am not stepping down for anyone. Let the people decide who they want to lead,” he said.
Amaechi emphasized the need for internal democracy within the ADC, arguing that an open contest would strengthen the party. He also criticized the Bola Tinubu administration, accusing it of policies that have worsened hardship across the country.
“Nigerians are tired because no one is happy under Tinubu. People are suffering everywhere,” he stated.
On political appointments, Amaechi alleged that only those close to the President had benefited, while broader inclusion was lacking.
Responding to questions on zoning, he said the matter rested with the ADC leadership but insisted he would remain in the race regardless.
Amaechi also dismissed suggestions that his political base in Rivers State had weakened due to the influence of FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
“Recently, when I visited Rivers to inaugurate the ADC, the turnout was massive, and nobody was mobilised with money. That should tell you where the people stand,” he maintained.
Describing himself as one of the most prepared aspirants, Amaechi said his candidacy would foster unity across regions.
