The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has formally severed its relationship with the Church in Wales following the appointment of Rt. Rev. Cherry Vann, an openly lesbian cleric, as Archbishop of Wales.

Speaking at the Anglican Chancellors, Registrars, and Legal Officers Conference held in Abuja on Tuesday, the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Most Rev. Dr. Henry C. Ndukuba, condemned the appointment, calling it a “grave departure from biblical doctrine” and an “abomination before God.”

“We do not recognise the so-called Archbishop of Wales and cannot share communion with any church that has strayed from the clear teachings of Scripture,” Ndukuba stated.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the Primate reaffirmed the Church of Nigeria’s unwavering stance against homosexuality and other doctrinal practices deemed unbiblical.

He described the election of a practising lesbian as not only a rejection of the faith once delivered to the saints but also a direct challenge to God’s established order.

“The Church of Nigeria will continue to uphold biblical orthodoxy and resist all forms of heretical teachings,” he added.

The decision reinforces the Church of Nigeria’s position as one of the most conservative provinces within the global Anglican Communion, particularly on matters of sexuality and doctrine.
