Ganduje’s resignation sparks power tussle as loyalists protest

Some loyalists of the immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, have expressed disappointment over his resignation, warning it could destabilise the party.
Meanwhile, a group from the North-Central has demanded that the chairmanship position now be zoned to the region.
Ganduje stepped down from his role on Friday. According to the APC’s spokesperson, Felix Morka, the former Kano State governor resigned due to health reasons.
However, Information gathered from party insiders that Ganduje’s resignation was influenced by political manoeuvring, including plans for his rival, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to defect to the APC. Sources confirmed that President Bola Tinubu has already held discussions with Kwankwaso regarding the defection.
In the interim, the APC has appointed Deputy National Chairman (North), Bukar Dalori, as the Acting National Chairman, while it begins the search for a substantive replacement.
Party sources told our correspondents that the National Working Committee (NWC) will hold a special meeting on Monday to deliberate on Ganduje’s successor and other political strategies leading up to the 2027 presidential election.
> “The NWC meeting on Monday will lead to a National Executive Council meeting where the final decision will be taken,” a source revealed.
