Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, the 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, has argued that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s victory in the 2023 presidential primary is not solely responsible for the party’s recent decline.

Speaking during an interview on Channels TV on Sunday, Jandor—who recently rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC)—offered a broader perspective on the internal issues affecting the PDP, particularly in contrast to the APC.

He acknowledged the PDP’s commitment to internal democracy but highlighted a key shortcoming: the lack of party discipline and unity after candidate selections.

“PDP—give it to them—they can be very democratic when it comes to selection choices, which is good,” Jandor said. “But PDP is the only party where I’ve seen leaders telling their followers, ‘Don’t vote for that microphone because it wasn’t my choice.’”

He contrasted this with the APC, where he said the structure ensures party supremacy—a system in which members rally behind the party’s chosen candidate regardless of personal preference.

Jandor noted that while Atiku emerged from a transparent and legitimate primary, the PDP’s internal divisions and disloyalty among some influential members undermined the party’s unity and electoral strength.
