The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports suggesting that Vice President Kashim Shettima may be replaced as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing the claims as speculative, unfounded, and entirely baseless.

In a statement issued on Monday, the ruling party said there was no truth in the reports making the rounds on social media and some online platforms, stressing that discussions about the 2027 elections, including issues of running mates, were premature and misleading.

According to the APC, President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima remain firmly focused on governance and the delivery of campaign promises to Nigerians, rather than engaging in early political calculations for the next election cycle.

The party cautioned the public against being distracted by what it termed “deliberate attempts to sow discord” within the party and the Presidency, noting that the Tinubu-Shettima ticket was a product of broad consultations and strategic considerations that remain intact.

APC leaders also emphasised that the vice president continues to enjoy the confidence of the president and the party’s leadership, adding that any insinuation of his replacement was false and designed to create unnecessary tension.

The party urged its members and supporters to ignore the rumours and remain united, while calling on the media to verify information before publication to avoid spreading misinformation.
