The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Pius Akutah, has called on former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to support President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Akutah made the appeal while speaking at a public engagement in Benue, where he emphasised the need for political cooperation to attract federal development projects and improve infrastructure across the state. According to him, aligning with the administration at the centre could help accelerate economic growth and enhance opportunities for residents.
He argued that sustained collaboration between state political actors and the Federal Government would be beneficial in areas such as transportation, agriculture, trade facilitation and investment promotion. Akutah noted that the Nigerian Shippers’ Council has been working to improve logistics efficiency and port operations nationwide, stressing that stronger federal support could further boost economic activities in Benue.
The council boss urged political leaders to prioritise the collective interest of the people over partisan considerations, saying unity of purpose would help address pressing socio-economic challenges confronting the state.
However, some PDP stakeholders have maintained that political decisions regarding alliances and endorsements should be guided by broader consultations within party structures. Observers say the appeal may intensify debate within Benue’s political landscape as preparations gradually begin for the next electoral cycle.
Meanwhile, analysts note that early alignments and endorsements could shape campaign strategies and influence political dynamics in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.
