Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been weakened by internal crises and defections, insisting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserves a second term in office in 2027.

Fintiri made the remark while addressing political stakeholders and supporters during a recent gathering, where he spoke on the evolving political landscape ahead of the next general election.

According to him, the current state of the opposition, particularly the PDP, has significantly reduced its ability to mount a strong challenge against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He said the party has been plagued by divisions, leadership disputes and the exit of several key members.

“The truth is that the PDP today is not the same party we once knew. Many of its structures have been weakened, and internal disagreements have continued to deplete the party,” Fintiri reportedly said.

The Adamawa governor added that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has embarked on key reforms aimed at stabilising Nigeria’s economy and addressing long-standing challenges.

He argued that the president should be allowed to complete a second term to fully implement his policies and consolidate ongoing reforms.

According to him, continuity in governance is necessary to sustain the impact of economic and institutional reforms currently being introduced by the federal government.

Fintiri also noted that some Nigerians may still be feeling the effects of the economic adjustments introduced by the administration, but maintained that the reforms were necessary to reposition the country.

“Leadership sometimes requires taking difficult decisions. What matters is the long-term benefit to the country,” he said.

His comments come amid increasing political realignments across the country as politicians and political parties begin early manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In recent months, several political actors have either defected to the ruling APC or expressed support for President Tinubu’s administration, while opposition parties continue efforts to rebuild their structures and strengthen alliances.

Political analysts say the coming months are likely to witness intensified political consultations and alignments as stakeholders position themselves for the next electoral cycle.

Meanwhile, supporters of the APC have welcomed Fintiri’s remarks, describing them as recognition of the reforms being implemented by the Tinubu administration.

However, some PDP members have dismissed the comments, insisting that the opposition party remains a formidable force capable of challenging the ruling party in future elections.

As political activities gradually intensify ahead of 2027, observers believe Nigeria may witness significant shifts in alliances and party structures that could shape the outcome of the next presidential race.
