The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Labour Party (LP), and other opposition voices have slammed the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, for calling on the South-East to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Umahi, in a statement on Monday, urged the South-East to give President Tinubu up to 90% of their votes, claiming that such support would secure the long-term interests of the Igbo people.

> “We must not be deceived again. Mr President must have the votes of the Southeast up to 90 per cent to cement this relationship,” Umahi said.

“If we want to be President, we must avoid the politics of hate, misinformation, and sentiments. We must support other regions, and with God, one day, other regions will support us. Mr President must be supported to complete his tenure of eight years.”

He added that while the South-East may not produce a president in 2027, unity and strategic alliances would position the region for future leadership. Umahi insisted he would continue to oppose efforts to “deceive” the people of the South-East, whom he described as known for hard work and love, not hate.
