2027: Obi not under DSS, EFCC radar — Aide
An aide to former Anambra State governor and 2027 presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, has dismissed reports suggesting that the politician is being investigated by security or anti-graft agencies, describing the claims as false and politically motivated.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the aide said Obi was neither under the watch of the Department of State Services (DSS) nor the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), stressing that the former Labour Party presidential candidate has no pending issues with any law-enforcement body.
The clarification follows growing speculation on social media alleging that federal agencies were monitoring Obi ahead of the next election cycle. According to the aide, such narratives were part of attempts to create public doubt about Obi’s political standing and distract from national conversations.
He maintained that Obi has always conducted his public and private affairs transparently and remains confident in his record. “There is no investigation, no invitation, and nothing to hide,” the statement said, adding that Obi is ready to face any lawful scrutiny if required.
The aide further alleged that political intimidation and misinformation were becoming common as preparations for the 2027 elections gradually gather momentum. He urged supporters to ignore unverified reports and focus on issues of governance and policy debates.
While neither the DSS nor the EFCC has officially commented on the claims, observers note that political tensions often increase ahead of election cycles, with rival camps trading accusations and denials.
Obi, who has continued to engage with supporters nationwide after the last general election, is widely believed to be considering another presidential bid in 2027, though he has not formally declared his intention.
