The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned political parties and individuals to stop engaging in early campaign activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Monday, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, stated that INEC has not yet released the official timetable or schedule for the elections.

His warning comes amid increasing public concern over political posters, endorsements, and verbal attacks among politicians — which many see as signs of unofficial campaigning.

> “INEC has not released the timetable and schedule for the 2027 general elections,” Oyekanmi said.

> “Therefore, party primaries have not been held, and no political party has nominated candidates for the election.”

He reminded political actors that Section 94(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 clearly states that:

Campaigns can only begin 150 days before election day

Campaigns must end 24 hours before voting starts

He emphasized that any campaign activities outside this window are illegal.
