No fewer than 16 youth football teams have registered to compete for glory in the Seyi Tinubu Citizens Cup Football Tournament, set to take place from April 12 to 19 in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Speaking at a press conference in Ilorin on Thursday, the head of the organising committee, Bello Olamilekan, described the tournament as more than just a football event — calling it a movement that empowers the youth and fuels ambition.

“This is more than football,” Bello said. “It’s a movement that shows the world our generation isn’t waiting for change — we’re driving it. We’re ready to lead, to inspire, and to transform our nation.”

The tournament, which also serves as a scouting platform, is open to players aged 18 to 25. Teams confirmed to participate include: NA Royals, Skills FC, Morrow International FC, Ka’ah FC, FC Zeus, Alabama FA, Kwara Football Academy, Unity FA, Tsaragi Emirate FA, Eagle Stars FC, JAAD FA, AbraySports FA, D’Aztecs, La Planet FA, Asa United, and Legal Stars FC.

Bello took the opportunity to applaud Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his continued support and investment in sports and youth development, describing it as “a lifeline for the youth and a foundation for a Kwara that thrives, not just survives.”

“Seyi Tinubu understands that football is more than a game — it’s a language of dreams and a bridge that connects ambition to opportunity,” Bello said.

He encouraged participating athletes to embrace the moment, play with passion and integrity, and recognize the deeper value of the experience.

“This is bigger than just winning a trophy,” he added. “It’s about discipline, teamwork, and the relentless spirit of never giving up — qualities that create champions not just on the pitch, but in life.
