The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has come under public scrutiny following the demolition of a property in Abuja, despite a reported court order restraining such action.
According to sources, officials of the FCT administration allegedly supervised the demolition exercise while security operatives, including policemen, were deployed to the scene. Eyewitnesses claimed that shortly after the structure was pulled down, some officers were seen allegedly selling off salvaged building materials from the site.
The property owner is said to have obtained a court injunction restraining the FCT authorities from tampering with the building pending the determination of an ongoing legal dispute. However, the demolition reportedly proceeded regardless, sparking outrage among legal practitioners and civil rights groups.
Critics have described the development as a blatant disregard for the rule of law, warning that such actions could erode public confidence in the justice system. Some lawyers have called for an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the demolition and the alleged sale of materials by security personnel.
As of the time of filing this report, the FCT administration has yet to issue an official statement clarifying the situation, while the police authorities have also not responded to the allegations involving their officers.
The incident has continued to generate widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians demanding accountability and respect for court orders by government officials.
