Dr. Gbenga Hashim, a senior chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called on Northern leaders to accept responsibility for the regionโ€™s worsening insecurity and perceived governance failures, warning that continued inaction could deepen crises.

Hashim argued that Northern states have experienced escalating violence, banditry, and communal conflicts, which he said are exacerbated by weak governance and lack of accountability among regional leaders.

He stressed that addressing insecurity requires proactive measures, including security sector reforms, community engagement, and better oversight of local institutions. Hashim also urged collaboration with the federal government to stem the rising tide of violence.

According to him, leaders cannot continue to blame external factors alone; they must take ownership of policies and interventions that directly impact the safety and welfare of citizens.

He further emphasized that the political class has a duty to ensure that developmental and security policies are implemented effectively to prevent further loss of lives and property.
