The Akinsanya Olojo-Kosoko ruling house has appealed to the Lagos State Government to intervene in the prolonged delay in installing its Oba-Elect, who was duly selected in 2020.
In a statement issued on Sunday, representatives of the ruling house expressed concern that five years after the completion of the selection process, the community remains without a substantive traditional ruler, despite all necessary procedures reportedly being followed.
According to the family, the Oba-Elect emerged through a process recognised by customary law and in line with existing chieftaincy declarations governing the stool. They noted that relevant documents had been submitted to the appropriate government agencies shortly after the selection was concluded.
The ruling house warned that the continued delay is creating uncertainty within the community and weakening traditional leadership structures that play a key role in maintaining peace, resolving disputes and supporting grassroots governance.
They further appealed to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to urgently look into the matter, stressing that timely intervention would restore confidence in the chieftaincy system and uphold due process.
The family maintained that their appeal is not driven by confrontation but by a desire to see justice done and tradition respected, adding that the community has remained patient and law-abiding throughout the period of delay.
They called on the state government to act swiftly in the interest of unity, stability and respect for cultural heritage in Lagos.
