The former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has returned to Nigeria from London amid growing political developments in Kano State, ahead of the anticipated defection of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the ruling party.

Sources close to the APC disclosed that Gandujeโ€™s return is linked to high-level consultations and strategic meetings aimed at finalising arrangements for the governorโ€™s planned move to the APC. The development is seen as part of efforts to strengthen the partyโ€™s structure in Kano and ensure a smooth political transition.

Governor Yusufโ€™s expected defection has generated intense discussions within the stateโ€™s political circle, with analysts describing it as a major realignment that could significantly alter the balance of power in Kano politics.

Although neither Ganduje nor the Kano State Government has officially confirmed a timeline for the defection, party insiders say preparations are at an advanced stage, with key stakeholders already briefed.

The APC leadership is said to be positioning itself to formally receive the governor and his supporters, a move that could boost the partyโ€™s influence in the North-West region.

Observers note that Gandujeโ€™s presence in the country at this time signals the importance attached to the development, as both camps work to manage internal party dynamics and consolidate support.
