A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has granted former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and other defendants bail in the sum of ₦500 million.

Delivering the ruling on Monday, the court admitted Malami and the co-accused to bail with strict conditions, directing that each defendant must provide two sureties in like sum. The sureties are required to be persons of substance who own verifiable landed property within Abuja, supported by valid title documents to be deposited with the court registry.

The court further ordered the defendants to surrender their international passports and barred them from travelling outside the country without prior approval of the court. They are also to make themselves available for trial and must not interfere with witnesses or tamper with evidence.

Malami and the other defendants are standing trial on charges bordering on alleged financial misconduct, brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. They have pleaded not guilty to all the counts.

Following the bail ruling, the trial judge adjourned the matter to a later date for the continuation of proceedings.
