The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has confirmed that it is currently investigating former ministers and top serving government officials over allegations of corruption, unexplained wealth and asset declaration violations.
The CCB Chairman disclosed this while speaking at an official engagement, stating that the ongoing probes cut across past and present public office holders suspected of breaching the Code of Conduct for Public Officers. He explained that the bureau is acting on petitions, intelligence reports and findings from routine asset verification exercises.
According to him, several cases involve discrepancies between declared assets and lifestyles that cannot be justified by legitimate earnings. He noted that the bureau is committed to ensuring accountability and transparency in public service, regardless of status or political affiliation.
The chairman stressed that investigations are being carried out in line with the law, adding that any official found culpable would be referred to the Code of Conduct Tribunal for prosecution. He also warned public officers against false asset declarations, describing it as a serious offence under the constitution.
He reaffirmed the bureauโs resolve to strengthen the fight against corruption and urged citizens to continue reporting suspected cases, assuring that credible petitions would be thoroughly examined.
The CCB is constitutionally empowered to receive, verify and monitor asset declarations of public officers, as well as enforce compliance with ethical standards in public service.
